GRETA, T he Dalle« The Rufus band under the di rection of their band master Mr. Rose played several selections preceeding the play. The Rufus Missionary women met at the parsonage Thursday to get it in readiness for the new pastor who is expected the end of May. A pot luck lunch was served at noon, and for once the women really enjoyed washing woodwork, windows, etc. A Rufus Sunday school picnic as held Saturday near Golden- dale. Not many were able t0 go. but a good time was reported by* ice -v all -** that *•*-* went, and — more ___ - cream than they could eat. Rosaile Gunkel of Maryhill was visiting with Patty Black- burne Sunday. Rufus grange met Thursday night in regular session with Master E. C. Eaton in the chair. Albert has a thirty day furiough »phe music recital at Rufus gcbool Tuesday night was well attended. Under the direction of Miss Vivian Trounce, music teacher, the pupils all did well. The high light was when Mrs Brady, school principal, announc- ed she had taken wire recordings of all the music, and she played back, a piano solo by Miss Trounce and a duet by Miss Trounce and Dorothy Blackbur- ne. The children were still play- ing over the recital the next day at school. Mr and Mrs Ted Trimble went to The Dalles Wednesday to bring her mother, Mrs Lewis olds home from the hospital where she spent four weeks for medical care. Bud Brlnkert went to Airlie Friday to visit Mrs Brlnkert who has been there several weeks with her father, who is very ill. He returned home Sun- day accompanied by Fred Crow- ley Jr., who spent a week there with his father a record crowd attended the three act play which the high school presented Friday night at ° the school gymnasium. How George and Jean won *2 /)0 0 college scholarships These two young Westerners, Jean Hathaway o f Chico, California, and George Emde, Jr. o f Lodi, California, will begin college next fall with the help o f $2,000 scholarships awarded by Standard of California. They were chosen as outstanding among 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America members w ho raised and showed their own livestock at the recent Grand National Junior Livestock Exposition in San Francisco. Four other , scholarships o f $1,000 each were also awarded—to Mary Lee Hay o f Lovelock, Nevada; Robert Young of Quincy, California; Ralph Boyd of Lancaster, California; and James Buell o f Buellton, California. Scholastic ability, leadership, personality, records in club projects w$»e all considered by 4-H Club and F. F. A. judges. We’d like to say ’’Good Luck!” to G eorge,Jean, Mary, Robert, Ralph and James. We know they’ll do a fine •ob in school...and later as good citizens of the West.
