R U F U S BACCALAUREATE B accalaureate services for the 1948 R ufus high and grade school classes w ere held Sunday evening May 23 at the R ufus school au d itorium . Thom as Lewis played the processional, and the class m arched up the aisle to th eir places. The invocation was giv en by Rev. W ycliffe Rice, pastor of the Nazarene church in Rufus, and w as followed by the hym n, “Holy, Holy, H oly” sung by the congregation. The- scrip tu re was read by Rev. L aurence B urdette, pastor of the F irst M ethodist church in The Dalles. Two solo’s, “T he L ord’s P ray er", and "Oh Lord On H igh” w ere sung by Thom as Lewis. R ufus music m as ter. accom panied by D orothy Friday Blackburne. The serm on was giv en by Rev. B urdette. One song w as sung by th e R ufus m ixed q u a re tte and the congregation sang “A Charge To Keep ”. Im m e diately following benediction by Rev. Rice, the class m arched out w ith the recessional play by Thom as Lewis. W ith flow ers so num erous it looked like a sp rin g garden, (in- cidently, all grow h in grange m em bers gardens in and near ’ Rufus) was the setting for the banquet the Home Economics club of the Rufus grange put on for the high school graduates, faculty and guests, num bering 46 in all. Blue and w hite candles and place cards on hand painted n u t cups w ith m in itu re diplomas, decorated each place at the w hite linen covered tables. D. D. W illiams, principal of $he R ufus school acted as toast m aster of the evening. Home Ec onom ics chairm an, Bem eice M orris gave the welcome ad dress. A duet by* Mrs W. E. Rice and daughter,•^-Jessie, was sung accom panied by Velda Guilford. George G.
