Growing popularity o f the four percent loan for pre-service residents of Oregon, according to loan supervisor A. J. Crose, is re flected in the com parison of last m onths figures w ith those of April a year ago, when only six loans w ere made am ounting to $11,875. L ast m onth’s loans averaged $4140 per veteran. T he total am ount loaned since s ta rt of op erations in the fall of 1945, th ru April 30 of this year, w as $4,169,- 469 to 1267 veterans, for a n av erage of $3290 per loan. A- The overall average is lower, Crose explained, because original ly the maximugfc w hich could be borrowed w as only $3000. N early every m onth since th e 1947 leg islature amended th e a c t to dou ble the m aximum and to add other liberalizing features has seen an increased dem and for the loan. The act perm its veterans who w ere Oregon residents before en tering service to borrow an am ount not exceeding 75 percen t of the appraised value of th e pro perty they wish to purchase, up to $6000. ------ — --------------- F o r fu rth er details and to ap ply, veterans should see th e ir own service officer, o r contact the D epartm ent of V eterans’ Af fairs, State L ibrary Building, Sa lem. or 416 S.W .
