It is reported from the school
superintendent’s office that Sher­
man county school boards have
been able to hire 20 teachers for
the five Schools now operating.
More are wanted.
Educators have long considered
27 pupils to lie a normal teach­
ing load for a teacher under av­
erage conditions and some state
money is distributed on that oa
sis. That is probably not exces­
sive. On that basis the teaching
force already contracted for this
couny could conveniently handle
540 pupils. That is about twice
the number who will register
for school. If there is an emer-
gency |n education and it is caus
from a shortage of instructors,

mission has been able to add five

until the staff is doubled It Is ex
pected, he says, that timber made
available for sale from state-own­
ed lands, will be increased to one
billion board feet in 1946, and
two billion board feet In 1947.
Possibilities are being explored
with other states which own
standing timber that can be sold.
