When the cost of educating a pupil in high school, together with the cost of getting him or her to school, reaches $1366 it is time some different arrangements were made. The sum is outrage ous. It is approximately ten times the state average.* It is no wonder that school men in districts where education is limited by lack o f funds are be- giaing to obtain some of the wes- ted funds in the higher cost dis tricts of whlrii Shemtan county has several. If this county can devise no more economical system of giving high school education to its youngsters there will cer tainly be some better system for ced upon us- The record of the lowest cost school, Moro-GV, showed a firfbre considerably above the state aver age. This lowest mark was only obtained by consolidation, more of which seems to be indicated in the -light of audited costs. Even if this county does continue to countenance such costs, the re mainder of the state will aeon make it impossible to use public money so lavishly while other dis tricts starve for funds to con duct schools. This ignores; the decisive sea battles of history as well as the potentials of submarine warfare. He Infers that the German war machine can con tinue after German production fordfes have failed.
