For June 21 . Trip Over Station Grounds Will Be Made By Visitors The field day a t the experiment station that has been held nearly every year since the station was established here will be an event of Friday, June 21, according to an nouncement by M. M. Oveson, director. As usual fanners and others in terested will gather at the station buildings for a few minutes ex planation of the work being done. Then the tour of the station will begin during which visitors will be shown the new grass and the old, the results of different dates of sowing and of plowing, of plow ing and disking, of plowing deep nnq shallow, of rotating crops. D. D. Hill, professor of the farm crops will be here and Lynn Harris who knows about weeds will also taik on that subject. Joe Belanger who is experiment ing for the soil conservation ser vice with different types of sum- merfallow in an effort to find out what kind/, produce the most wheat ana retain the soil best—and why, will be on hand to explain his ex periments. Both Henderson is in charge of^the' nurrery where new wheats are de- \eloped and is also growing sevt- al different varieties of flax as an experimental crop for this area. The annual inspections of the station together with the experi mental information sent out from it, have been important factors in making Sherman county farmers the'best in the state and, no doubt, have much to do with the fact that this county is able to produce wheat cheaper than any other coun ty. The 1940 field day will be an other opportunity to continue and increase this knowledge. Everyone is invited and a good crowd is desired by the station staff. Washington, D..
