The evening was spent informally. Mrs. Foley of Moro gave several readings while M argaret Johnson favored with vocal solos assisted a t the piano by William Clothier. Refreshm ents 4 were served late in the evening. The 43 guests included Mrs. GuyJ Pound and sister, Mrs. Elia Hytlop of The Dull;.». Mrs. Ove Hansen was a business visitor in Moro Wednesday. Mrs. Ross Hilderbrand enter tained Miss Huekin at her home Thursday afternoon with a kitch en shower. A social afternoon was enjoyed on the lawn. — Mr. and Mrs. Tom S triker left for California recently. Mrs. Maud Akers is visiting in Portland with her son, Carroll and family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Neville 1« ft Monday for several weeks Mrs. Jean Joyal and Mrs. Pearl - stay in Portland. Miss Winifred Butler were business visitors in Portner left with them. Jean Joyal and Henry Shannon of Condon visited Sunday with Mrs. Joyal and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E verett McQuillen. T. Lester Johnson returned Sun day from a ten days business trip to western M ontana. Mrs. Johnson is home from a two weeks visit » iu Portland with her sister. Mrs. Archie Gore of Longview, W eshington left Monday with her daughter Norm a, a fte r visiting for several days w ith her sister, Mrs.; Mrs. B. Estrelle Hailey spent the week end to Northwestern Lake. Donna Jeanette and Dolores Watkins of Portland are enjoying he remainder of the summer vis- ting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I). Sponsors of the pro ject told the commission at a hen ring in Salem several weeks •*• • ) i hat if it was approved it was their plan to purchase the d istri bution system of the Pacific Pow er Light company and to serve th? city as well as the rural areas. If the M artin plaque is hung in the executive suite friends of other governors will insist upon the same recognition for their idol until in time the w alnut panels of the reception room will be com pletely hidden behind bronze plaques, even as the walls, of the legislative chambers in the. old cap- itol were cluttered up with the horrors th a t passed as p ortraits of form er governors. lAnd there the situation rests The plaque is ready to be placed but until the custodian of the capitol and the plaque’s sponsors can get together on a location no p lin s can be made for its dedica tion. • * • State T reasurer W alter A. Pearson opines th at it would be good advertising for the state if an attractive hostess could be em ployed to meet and greet visitors to the new capitol, of whom there are several hundred every day. Governor Sprague agrees with him. So also does Secretary of State Snell. But, Secretary of State Snell points out there are nc funds out of which a hostess could be paid. Again Governor Sprague agrees. So also does T ieasu rer Pearson. So it appears, barrin£ the »<lvent of some philan- thropist or some patriotic group willing to shoulder the cost, v isit ing tourists will have to find their way a ro u n d th e new statehouse without benefit of a hostess as th .y have in the. past. !
