Happy swellings. Bat Lou Peets and Lonnie Betebe left Monday for a week at Chmp Sherman on the Metolius river where they will fish and enjoy the spring sunshine. Frank Sayre is down with the mumps again after one day at schooL A luncheon was given in honor of President Q. W. Peavy at the D. E. Stephens home Sunday with extension and experiment workers of the college as guests. The Dalles port district voted the bonds by a decisive vote Tuesday and are now prepared to go ahead with the development of the port Mrs. Otis Baker returned home this week from down on the John Day river where she had been tak ing care of an infant for a few Ernest Houston and wife return ed to Sherman county this week after spending ths winter at Chilliwak, B. G They have sold out there and will live in a more temperate dime for a while. The Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wisner of The Dalles who were recently presented with a gift from the stork was not the Earl Wisner known in this county and the Mrs. Earl Wisner is not the former Lucile Templeton. Marion McKee left Friday for Portland to attend a meeting of the druggists board of the stata Miss Leora Peetz accompanied him to the city for a visit with relatives. Paul Goddard and Miss Ione Miller drove to (Monmouth Friday to be present at an educational meeting. Bud Powell is driving one of the new Fords this week having made a trade with Vernon Flatt. Mrs. Jack Eva has a new Chevrolet pick-up bought from Mel Schade- wits. Clarence Morrison and wife spent the week end in Arlington and the girls were in The Dalles for the time. - Mrs. Mary Johnson Eva is in a Portland hospital for medical treatment. Arnold Landry is back on ths job again and is making his usual rounds of two days of each week in each of the towns, Grass Valley, Monday and Tuesday; Wasco. Instead of the corner entrance the door way will be in the center of the building. New display windows will be installed and • cement sidewalk will be laid down to improve the property. ' -Art Bibby is making improve ments on his home. The basement has been completed, a new roof is being put on and the entire out side will be painted . The Dell Olds house has recent ly received a new coat of paint. Edgar Alley and wife and child, Tom Alley and Paul Alley and fam ily of' Wasco drove to Yakama Synday to attend a birthday party given in honor of the birthday of Grandma Mathias. * Freida Beuther, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Beuther was oper ated dn for mastoid infection in The Dalles Sunday and is reported to be recovering very well Miss Cassie Holmes is caring for her. Mrs. Fred Stradley is a late suff erer with the mumps having taken the disease early this week. Mm. a L. Henry Roth is back from the hospital after a few days there under observation. “Brick'* Wells, son in law of T M. Rolfe is here again with his family. They are taking care ot the rooms while Mrs. John Rolfe is visiting in tho valley with hei parents. Mrs. John Wilt entertained friends Tuesday after noon with several tables of bridge. Mrs. Bill Buether returned from The Dalles Sunday. She has been taking treatments there. Mita. Edna Purcell was given another months school to teach at Rutledge. The term wHl now end the 28th of May. Jacob Wassenmiller reports that his drilling operation is down 205 feet at the mine below The Dalles. Frank von Borstel and wife, Miss Cassie Holmes and Henry Paten and Ted von Borstel went to Gold- endale Saturday night to attend the Legion conclave held there. Betty Payne, Olin Stark and Guy Vintin are reported to be suffering from the mumps and the Ted von Borstel children are undergoing a spell of the mmsles. Henry Munger who has worked here for several modtha has moved back to Wasco county. day from The Dalles.
