No appropriation was made for it In the 1934 budget. Malheur — Tax levies In Malheur county for 1934 show a alight in crease over 1933. The levy for state and county purposes is 20.55 mills, as compared with 18.» mills in 1933. The increase is due to lower vs lira- tions. Baker— The body of William J. Jayton has been found on his farm at New Bridge, Baker county. He had apparently dropped dead in a field half a mile from his home. He was among the early settlers in the Wing- ' ville district. - - Eugene—Plans are being worked out to establish a federal relief trans ient hotel in Eugene. Portland and Klamath Falla have been designated as the main points tor transient re lief hotels but lesser establishments are planned for interior cities. The Dalles — Vigorous opposition will be made to a dam at Bonneville* that does not allow ocean vessels to pass through it, by members of the Inland Empire Maritime conference. The Dalles Chamber of Commerce and the Dalles port commission. Eugene—A maximum work week of 4 4 hours and a ruiximum store open week of 56 hours are sought in a petition being circulated among Eu gene business men. The petition is sponsored by the Central Labor coun cil and all organized labor groups of »he city. Sglem—Approximately 10 per cent, of the population of Marlon county is enrolled for possible relief work, ac cording to E. T. Barnes, manager of the national re-employment office. Out of a population of something over 50,000 the number of men and wo men enrolled is 5036. Philomath — Residents of Philo math and vicinity have aeked the Benton county court to clear and grade about two miles of the Marya Peak road that leave» the Aleea highway one mile from Philomath. * The road would make some 30,000,- 000 feet of timber accessible.
