OREGON STATE LEGISLATIVE NEWS Brief Resume of Happenings of the Week Collected for qßur Readers Highlights of Monday in the Oregon legislature Governor Meier extends bank holi days. Tithing bill approved by senate. Senate holds whale is not a fish. Bill carrying legislator«’ per diem approved. Judge bill Is reported out. Governor vetoes four bills. Watched by a thronged chamber, i 30 members of the senate debated whether or not the people should have a right to elect delegate« to a convention such as congress has sug gested to the states. The final vote on house bill No. 533, providing for a convention, was 18 to 12. Revenue Measure The senate, with only four dis senting votes, passed a house bill in troduced by the joint ways and means , committee providing for a "service chargee" of 10 per cent on all self-supported state activities which return approximately $150,- 000 annually to the general fund. There was not a dissenting vote on the bill authorizing an appropriation for the payment of per diem and mileage of members of the present An emergency < clam*r legislature. was attached to this measure.
