Old-Ajc Pension The old-age pension bill, which has met with discouragement at previous seaslons, passed the house of repre- - sentatlves by a vote of 84 to 23/*wIth three members excused. It was the fourth bill that the house had passed • In the past two days. The bill pro-* vldes that an application for a pen sion must be C5 years of age or more; have been a resident of the. United States 15 years and a resident of Ore gon for ten years. The pension is 530 a month. Speakers said that 24 states have adopted the old-age pension system as a substitute for poor farms, and not one state which has the pension system has abandoned it. Oregon, it was said, is the only state on the coast which has not abolished the poor farm. Interest Rate Bill The house turned down H. B. 457 which would have reduced the rate of Interest charged on loans of $1 to 8100 from 8 per cent, a month to 2H per cent, a month. The vote was 2 9 to 28, with three absent. Dammurh and Keasey of Multnomah changing their affirmative votes to negative af ter >1 approving votes had been chalked up for the bill, enough to pass It.
