Miss W innie Davis, daughter of Mrs.
b'tlerson Davis, died at noon today at

for several weesk.
Mis. Davis had watched unrem it
tingly at her d aughter’s iH-dside, and
I -lie is now bowed with sorrow. Tho
f physicians of Mis. Davis reports she is

affliction, and no fears are at present
I entertained of her health yielding to the

Miss W innie Davis, the “ Daughter
of the C onfederacy," was born in tho
Confederate executive m ansion, at
Richmond, Va., in 1863. Sho was ed
ucated principally at home, owing to
tho troubles surrounding her father and
tho publicity which attended all m ove
m ents of tlio Davis family. Miss Davis
attained her m aturity at Beauvoir,
Miss. Here she assisted her m other
ill various ways and took her place in
the many social functions o f tho place.
She was hei fa th e r’s constant com pan
ion. She assisted him in all his work,
and much of the inform ation which
was required by Mr. Davis in his w rit
ings was secured for him by his daugh
ter. Her strong character w a s m a l k e d
from youth. She was engaged to Mr.
W ilkeson, of Syracuse, N. Y ., hut
shortly after her father’s death the e n
gagem ent was broken off. W hile no
public explanation of rupture was
given, it is well known th at it was for
the purpose of m aintaining her father's
name.

1886. when her father made his famous
trip through tho Sooth. Mr. Davis
being unable to appear, Miss Winnie
was brought before the thousands at
