Cannon Beach Police Chief Jason Schermerhorn present- ed Matt Gardner with a plaque of recognition for his years of dedicated service to the Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District. In a farewell he called “bittersweet,” Schermerhorn praised Gardner for his work on emergency preparation, the cash container program and investigations. Gardner said it was a “privilege” to “work alongside Jason and receive his mentor- ship.” “I want to thank Matt speciically for all your hard work on the cache container program,” Mayor Sam Steidel said. Former Seaside resi- dent Walker Lundberg will be remem- bered at the Tides at a Me- morial Day Walker flag-raising Lundberg in his honor. The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. When purchasing a unit at the Tides, Lundberg became enthralled with the idea of put- ting up a lagpole, his daughter Jani Gurash wrote in a remem- brance. “He wanted it to be able to be a heartfelt symbol seen from the turnaround, ly- ing proud for all to enjoy while walking south the end of the Prom.” During the summers, Lundberg could be seen taking down the lag in the evening. He would include the children staying at The Tides in the cer- emony, saluting, honoring and folding “old faithful.” Lundberg was born in Sea- side Jan. 8, 1925. He was ac- and Susan (Susie) Corden. He was a successful business- man, from a one-person ofice in Sanger to a large ofice in Fresno with satellite ofices in the surrounding area. He was involved in the Independent Insurance Association, serving as president of the California Association as well as on na- tional boards. He died in 2012. Lundberg’s daughter Jani Gurash remembers summers in Seaside and her father’s desire to build a lagpole that could be seen all the way downtown. Laura Kaim joins Cannon Beach Visitor Center Cannon Beach Gazette advertising consultant Laura Kaim is headed to the Can- non Beach Visitor Informa- tion Center after two years with EO Media Group. Kaim will be the lead information specialist for the center start- ing June 1. During her tenure, she helped grow advertising sales in the South County for the Gazette, Seaside Signal and Daily Astorian, as well as handling real estate adver- tising for all coastal publi- cations.
