Merchandise of Merit :: Condon, Oregon Owing to the fact that persona desirous of destroying crooertv by fire may take advantage of the use of explosives on the 4th of July, I, M. Fitxmaurice, by virtue of the authority in vested in me as Mayor of the City of Condon, do hereby make proclamation that there will be no fireworks of any kind or de script ion allowed in said city on said 4th of July, 1918. And it is ordered that the Marshals of the said city do arrest immediately any person selling or setting off such fire works or explosives o any kind. Ancrit is hereby recommended that the Sheriff of this county aid the said Marshals in the enforcement of this proc lamation. Given under my hand this 22nd day of June, 1918. M. FlTZMAURICE, Mayor. Try These and Save Wheat Oatmeal Biscuits li cups rolled oats or oatmeal, 3 teaspoons baking powder. teaspoon salt, 6 teaspoons fat, cup liquid, 2 tablespoons sweet ening. Make as any biscuits. Bake. Barley Biscuits 2 cups barley flour, 5 teaspoons baking powder, 4 tablespoons fat, teaspoon salt, Enough milK to make a soft dough. Sift the dry ingredients to gether, work in the fat and add the milk. Cut into shape and bake as other biscuits. Oatmecl Gems 3 cups oatmeal, 1 cup barley flour, 6 teaspoons baking pow der, 2 cups milk, 1 egg, 2 tea spoons salt. Mix as other gems. Bake in moderate oven. Barley-Cornmeal Biscuits 1 cup barley flour, 1 cup corn meal, 4 teaspoons baking pow der, 1 cup liquid, 1 egg, salt. W. I. Ebbert returned from Portland Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W". Lillie re turned from Portland Sunday Mr. Lillie attended the sheriff's convention in that city last week. W. C. Brown drove to Port land in his Bupmobile last Sat urday. Chas. Haley went to Portland last week and enlisted in the navy. Harry Fitzmaun'ce visited over Sunday with his parents here and returned to Portland Mon day. He went to American Lake with the Condon draft quota Tuesday. S. C. Dodson renewed his sub scription to the Globe this week. Walter Brent, a former Con don- man, has enlisted in the Marine Corps. Dr. Turner, eye specialist of Portland, will be in Condon again Friday and Saturday, June 28 and 29, at the Hotel Summit. Don't forget the date. 14dl5 Don't forget we still have a good supply of hardwood suitable for fixing machinery, making reaches, wagon boxes, etc. Our supply of wood for fuel is going fast and those who haven't or dered had better do so at once. All persona who can give in formation in regard to any draft registrant whose status is affect ed by the work or fight regula tiona, which become effective July 1, are particularly requested by the War Department to do so In fact, the regulations make it the duty of all citizens to re port at once all facts which may come to their knowledge concern ing registrants who are idle, or who are engaged in a non-pro ductive occupation or employ- ment. This report should be made to the nearest local draft board. Persons writing or giving this information in person need have no fear their names will be re vealed, for the information will be regarded in this sense as strictly confidential. Mrs. M. L. Pittman went to Mitchell last Sunduy. She will make her home with her daugh ter, Mrs. Fred Anderson of that place. Mrs. B. K. Searcy, who has been very ill, is improving slightly. Mr Searcy's condition continues kbout the same. Mrs. F. M. Bock was an out going passenger on Monday's train. Mrs. Evans and two children came over from Lexington Wednesday and will be guests at the Weinke home until after Chautauqua. Mrs. Evans is Mrs. Weinke's sister. Holien & Sons received three carloads of Deering two man combines this week. A. M. Ogilvy was up from Mikkalo the first of the week and while here renewed his sub scription to the Globe. H. J. Brandon wants the Globe for another year and renewed Wednesday. Dr. R. W. Hanneman returned Wednesday evening from a few days visit in Portland. Mrs. J. W.
