' the presidency as a represen
tative of the progressive wing of
; the party is securing a hearty en-
dorsementin many quarters, but
whether it will finally be carried
out is as yet not a matter of cer
tainty. - It is certain, however,
that LaFollette is a man concern
ing whose position as to the is
sues between the progressives
and the reactionaries there is
never any doubt He stands to
day where he has stood for fif
teen years, first as a member of
congress, then as governor and
throughout his first term in the
senate as well as up to the pres
ent in his second term, always
fighting th tyranny of special
privilege, contending for a
square deal and for full control
of the government by the people.
It is also certain that LaFollette's
qitterest jiolitical enemies must
look up to him as a man, whose
championship of the people's
rights has never in any way been
influenced by any selfish inter
ests. This much will always be
said of him regardless of wheth
er or not he becomes a candidate.

tions. I was bred a lawyer, but I do
not know bow to draw up an indict

man at a time."
LABOR MUST ORGANIZE
The administration seems
somewhat anxious to have either
Cummins, Borah or Kenyon con
sent to stand for nomination for
the vice presidency. Well, that
would be a good change no
doubt, but the country is not
anxious to have either of them
remove from the working ranks
oi the senate.
There are lots of men who
.. think they are especially smart
and believe themselves of great
importance who would be sur
prised to know how little heart
ache will be caused by their final
departure.
Who says that the women
know nothing about politics?
lhey evidently know something
' about politicians at any rate for
the suttragettes of New York
; have raised $100,000 with which
to bring the legislature into line.
- We used to hear a great deal
of fun "poked" at those who at

"book farming;" The man who
read the books and tried to fol
low their directions knew what
it felt like to be laughed at. but
they are laughing now as thev
