" Forty-two million bushels of
wheat is the estimated crop of
Oregon, Washington and Idaho
according to, an authority who
has completed a trip through the
grain sections. He finds that
Oregon will produce 15,000.000
bushels, Washington 18,000.000
bushels and Idaho 9,000,000 bu
Unfavorable weather conditions
during the past winter in some
sections caused a falling off over
the total yield of last year which
was 52.500.000 bushels for the
three states.
Oregon's apple show will be
in Portland November 30 to Dec,
2. It will be a great exposition
of the state's fruit-growing pos
sibilities and it will be of wide
interest because of Oregon's
fame as the home of the red
apple, ' There promises to be
exhibits entered in competition
for prizes from every apple
grower county in the state. The
Corvallis Commercial Club has
already offered $100 for the best
apple exhibits " from "Benton
County and the Hood River Com
mercial Club has offered $50 for
prizes for the best apples shown
from that section. Other coun
ties will yet be heard from in
the same way.

ortland. The steel train mark
ed an epoch in Northwest rail
roading, being made up of the
most modern equipment used
anywhere in the world. The
day when old half worn out
coaches from eastern lines can
be sent west for use in their old
age has passed. The railroads
are now providing the most lux
urious service they can provide
and the trains operating on all
mes in the Northwest compare
favorably with those between
Chicago and at. Louis, or any
ther eastern points. The steel
coaches will not splinter, teles
cope or burn in case of accident.

Northwest
