The editorial Columns of the Times in last weeks issue con tained three efforts to hand something to the Globe, that were almost as amusing as the comic section of the Oregon Sunday Journal. They further inflicted punishment upon their subscribers by asking them to read two articles clipped from the Sherman County Observer The State Bar Association will hold a meeting in Portland on May 17. The Association has in a u rated a movement whereby it is expected to divorce the judiciary from politics. In other words the nomination of any as pirant for judge will not depend upon his affiliations with any political party, should be be a Democrat and the right man for the place he may also receive the support of the Republican party, The inaguration of this move ment is a step in the right direction. " Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other." Train your eyes to rest on the brightest spots in life. Pass the darkness on the other side. One of the sunniest places on earth is the spot made sacred by the hal lowed influence of those we love m our homes. According to reports which have come from commercial or ganizations throughout the Northwest, the lands of Oregon, Washington and Idaho are fast being gobbled up by the new settlers from eastern and middle western states. Along the rail road lines new homes are springing up by the hundreds, Railroad officials predict that the so-called rush will keep up all summer. Oregon advertising- in metro politan eastern papers has brought a flood of enquiry which all but swamped the head office of the Oregon Development League. Probably the record- breaking freeze throughout the Middle West and East, which oc curred at the time this adver tising appeared, had a great ef fect upon the .number of en quiries. Development meetings are scheduled this week at Bend and Trineville, the following Mon day at Burns. Each meeting will be held by the commercial or ganization and draw attendance from miles around. Never was the Rose Festival so universally recognized as this year. Various railroads have issued wonderfully attractive booklets and are devoting all their advertising to the event. Roses promise just as heavy a crop as the more substantial products such as fruit and grain. A movement has been started in Milton and Ffeewater to di vide Umatilla County. An ini tiative bill is being prepared to cut off the Northeastern section of the county..
