GILLIAM COUNTY What It Offers.
With this issue, the annual
Christrrtas number, the Globe en
deavors to show the real growth
of the best county in the Central
Oregon country Gilliam county,
Ever since alkali plains and roll
ing hills with their growth of
bunchgrass and sage brush, then
the home of the cattle men, be
gan to be cultivated and their
productiveness as a wheat soil
discovered, the county has made
great advances. The little trad
ing posts which supplied the few
inhabitants in former days have
grown into thriving towns until
today they are rich centers for a
vast territory." The residents of
the county are awakening to
the fact that the resources of
:this territory are vast and rich,
they are learning to farm the
rich soil under better methods
which will result in crops of un
told wealth, and have organized
the Gilliam County Improvement
Association to further the inter
ests of the county, to advertise
its real worth abroad and secure
more people to help them farm
and reap the golden harvest
The county offers great oppor
tunity to the.homeseeker and it
will bear the investigation of
every person looking forward to a
more suitable and money-making
home. ' ,.
"A Merry Christmas to all our
readers" is the greeting of The
Globe in this, its Christmas num
ber.

Arlington, situated on the
south bank of the Columbia, and
the northern terminus of the Arlington-Condon
railway branch,
is, as shown by the picture ac
companying this article, a most
desirable place to live. The cli
mate is a3 near perfect as any
that can be found. No excess
ively hot days in summer nor
cold in winter. The heavy rains
in the western part of the state
are not known here, yet there
is sufficient moisture to in
sure good crops. The beau
tiful shade trees which grow
profusely are the envy of all
cities of this section of Eastern
Oregon. -Arlington is blessed

transportation facilities
are of the best as it is situated on
the main line of the 0. R. & N.
and the steamers plying up and
down the Columbia puts it in
close touch with ihe large cities
and best markets while the Con

with' the interior. : The country
contiguous to Arlington affords
excellent winter range" for sheep
and the amount of wool shipped
from here is surprising. The
accompanying picture of the Ar

idea of the large amount of wheat
shipped from here. The people
