The authorities at Washington
have issued some very stringent
orders against expectorating in
post offices. Paragraph 11 of
the rules formulated by the com
mittee to prepare a plan for the
prevention of tuberculosis in
government offices and work
shops, is as follows: "Do not
spit on the floor; to do so may
spread disease;" shall be prom
inently posted in rooms, hallways
corridors and lavatories in public
buildings. Postmasters are in
structed to put up the required
notices, and if necessary shall
call on the local authorities to
enforce its provisions.
Oregon and Washington were
each given a hearing before
President Roosevelt's Commis
sion on Country life, and er
pressed themselves as more than
pleased with the co-operation
they received in these two
states. They were particularly
fortunate in being enabled to
meet the leading horticulturists
on account of numerous fruit
meetings at this season. The
whole country is awaiting the
Commission's report with gen
uine interest That much good
will result from the work, of the
country life commission this
caijer sincerely hopes. But it is
still wandering why the commis
sioners did not visit the country
and the country towns instead
of the large cities.
With the first Annual Christ
mas Number of the Globe, which
will appear on next Friday, the
editors have had in view for
several months the editing and
printing of an issue showing
forth the resources and advant
ages of Gilliam County just as
they are, an issue to be known as
"The Gilliam County Booster.
The work is proceeding just as
planned and on next Friday the
readers of the Globe will re
ceive a twelve page paper, beau
tifully designed and illustrated,
and full of good sound imform
ation and facts as well as the
news of the week. It will be an
issue eagerly sought and just
the thing to send to friends
wishing to learn about Gilliam
County. One-half of the extra
copies have already been sold and
those who wish copies, should
call at this office early. The
business men have already
seen the advantage of this
issue as an advertising
medium and are offering wonder
ful suggestions as well as big
bargains in the way of holiday
gifts. Look for the Globe's
Xmas Number, it is something
very different! The Globe sets
the pace! You will not be dis
