Napoleon aM His Attltuds Toward tha Cemmen Soldiar. Napoleon understood human nature. tie recognized the treat truth, "As a man thinketb In bis" heart so la he, and knew bow to apply It not only to himself and his own ambitions proj ects, bat to other men as well. More over, he knew precisely the right mo ment to apply It to quicken the spark of divine energy which smolders In every man, although the ashes of fa tlgue and failure may cover Its light temporarily. A French soldier carried a dispatch to Napoleon. Just as he delivered it Into the bands of the emperor bis spent horse dropped dead. Napoleon wrote an answer to the dispatch, then. dismounting from bis own horse, be banded the brl-le to the soldier. Take this horse and ride back, com rade." he said. "Nay. sire," summered the soldier, gating at the blooded horse and Its trappings. "It Is too magnificent and grand for me. a common soldier." "fake It!" commanded Napoleon. "There Is nothing too grand and mag nificent for a soldier of France." .The soldier mounted and rode away on his- perilous business, ready and willing, and Napoleon's words, repeat ed through the ranks and columns of his army, gave to bis tired troops fresh Inspiration and energy. "Noth ing too grand and magnificent for s soldier of France!" they said, and the thought that they were worthy of tha best Inspired them to the mighty deeds which followed. RAISE MORE HOGS Advisee Farmers to not Crow Wheat Entirely and to Introduce Rotation of Crops. Dr. Withycombc in one of his addresses said in part: "You have a grand country here,1 a magnificent country with a most productive soil -a soil that never fails even in the dryest years. You haven't enough people here, there are enough here today but I mean that your population is much too small, The hope of Oregon is in exten- sive iarming, smaller iarms, every inch of ground which will be made to produce and produce abundantly. Introduce a rota tion of crops, do not grow wheat entirely. Grow peas, alfalfa raise livestock, fine horses, fat hogs, good cattle. Farming is a science. You may not believe it, You ought to raise more swine here. Do you know that 75 per cent of the hogs slaughtered in Portland are raised in Nebraska? Another Blue-Ribboner. To have the distinction of being a live rustler, and the best in two counties, too. belongs to Nathan Knott, of Olex. He had nothing of his own which he thought good enough to exhibit, so he decided to boost for the Mayville Fair and to interest his neighbors in the enterprise. He rustled a large number of exhi bits in his neighborhood and the committee on awards rewarded him with a blue ribbon for being the best all-around rustler.' Fair Notes.
