Jireld-'- these excursions and
received benefit from them. Why
not Condon? These country trips
would give local merchants and
professional men a better insight
1 into conditions in the adjacent
country with which they have
commercial relations. The plan
if carried out determinedly would
enlarge the field of operations of
4oeal business men and contrib

of growth. Condon wants to see

these meetings would prove of
immense benefit to all concerned.
' TKere is danger of our local busi
ness men tieing too closely to the
mere town trade and of not
- reaching Cat! "Since theurftimely
' " death" of the local Commercial
i club, the excursions. to near-by
towns are both seasonable and of
prime importance.
The Globe has at various'times
printed cuts of some of the
Wheat City buildings. This is
not done to render our home pco-
fpfe,jir5flffcAFith the var

played in the town but for the
-enigLliCSftt,-of our ut-of-town
feaWi.he- habitants of the
Willamette valley, in particular,

tion of Eastern Oregon. They
think..of it as a vast wilderness
of sage brush, scattering wheat
fields with a sheep and a cattle
ranch, here and there. Our eas

herders , purchase provisions.
They picture our streets as filled
with towb'fidirig1 their mus-

'things"'1 generally. To remove
such nonsensical, erroneous con
ceptions, and "wild and wobly"
ideas, the Globe prints cuts of
Condon and the surrounding
country.
.' .'A11 eyes are turned to May
. Vville where the second annual
fair under the auspices of the
granfefi of Xjilliam -and Wheeler
counties jsto be held October 8
ana" 9. ".Many Condonites are
planning to attend but to insure
a large attendance from this city,
it will be necessary' for the fair
committee to make adequate ar
rangements for conveying the
: crowds to and from the . fair
: grounds. Then there must be
' eating accommodatious for the
visitors.
The Hood River Applegrowers
Association have just closed a
contract for 80,000 boxes of the
growing crop and now have un
der discussion the sale of 150,
000 boxes.
.. Exhibitors, Attention! j
s At a recfcnt meeting of the
Executive Committee of the
May ville fair the" matter of the
premiums paid to exhibitors last
year. A number of checks is
sued as premium money have
not yet been cashed. If these
are not presented for payment
within 30 days, the committee
will understand that the parties
holding the same do not wish the
money but prefer to have the
several amounts returned to
the Fair Fund.

John Magee, the well known
Trail Fork rancher, was in town
last week looking after business
matters. While here he availed
himself of the splendid clubbing
offer made by this paper, consis
ting of the Condon Globe, the
Pacific Monthly and Semi-weeky
Oregon Journal. This is a real
bargain for winter reading. The
Globe covers Gilliam county thor
oughly, the Journal brings to the
reader the happenings of the
state, the nation and the world
at large while the Pacific
Monthly gives him the best there
is in fiction. Mr. .Magee says
that the novel by Jack London is
mightily interesting reading.
