Miss Ebberts returned lost Thursday from an extended vis it with friends in Portland and in Eugene. Laurance returned Saturday from an enjoyable two months' visit at her parents' , home near Cody, Wyoming. Mr. Lawrance met her at ; Arlington. Misses Cecil Shurte and Luc ille Sturgess and Master Rodney Coe, of Arlington, who have been guests at the Huriburt home for the past two weeks returned home the fore part of the week. Miss C. Adams a trained nurse from Portland, arrived in Con don Monday evening. It will be remembered that Miss Adams had charge of a number cf cases of sickness here last winter. County School Superintendent Sturgill has returned from his vacation trip at Haines where he and his wife visited relatives. Mrs. Sturgill remained at Haines with her parents for another month. School work called the new superintendent back to Condon. Hatfield leaves Wasoo. Earl Beevis was in Wasco the first of the week on business. He reports the crops in that section looking well and prom ising an average yield. At a recent meeting of the wheat growers of Wasco and surround ing country preliminary arran gements were made to employ Hatfield, the rain-maker for another year. It is understood that the Calfornian wants $2500 for the continuation of his work. A large number of the farmers in the region where the exper iments have been conducted appear to be pleased with the results obtained and are anxious to enter into another contract Hatfield does not pose as a rain maker but through the applica tion 01 certain scientific princi ples under given favorable at mospheric conditions he claims to be able to increase the amount of precipitation. The rain maker left Wasco this week for other fields. E. Fiak, of Portland, has accepted a position with Kerr Gifford & Co. at Arlington. Mr, Fisk has been in the employ of the company for several years and had charge of the Condon office before the construction of of the railroad branch. No Hay In Wheeler. Merritt Frizzell who lives below Mitchell was in Condon last week on his way to the Yak ima country to investigate the hay market' He has about 800 head of cattle with but little for age to winter them. Should he And hay at reasonable prices, he will drive his cattle to that sec tion and fatten them for the Seattle market Mr. Frizzel reports tne crop prospects in Wheeler county as very poor. Mulching In Morrow County. The headers are out and the wheat is being cut and soon Mor row county will be in a condition to again furnish more than its quota of wealth to keep America at the head of the list of the wealth producing countries. The new method of mulching the wheat land is proving a sue cess in this county and while it is considerable work to go over the land three or four times those farmers who have no lazy bee in their bonnet will this year have as good a bank account as last year. W. J. Blake is sure that the new method of mulching is the thing as his wheat is forty-fold and will Rive him 40 bushels to the acre as a result of his using this method during the dry, sea son. From the lone Proclaimed Catholic Educators to Meet. One of the most important educational gatherings to meet in Portland during the month is that of the Catholic Educational Association of Oregon which wil! hold its sessions in the West Side High School building July 20 to 24, inclusive. The associa tion is made up of some twenty- two institutions conducted in this state and was organized July 1907 under the patronage of the Most Rev. Alexander Christie, archbishop of Oregon. The pro gram which has been received by the Globe promises to be except ionally interesting as many educ ators of renown will be in attend ance to take part in the institute.
