Gilliam county can ill afford to pass up the opportunity of hav ing an attractive exhibit of its resources in the Oregon state building at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition to be held in Seattle. Many of the Oregon counties have started to collect exhibits and to have attractive literature printed setting forth their resources. Gilliam county failed to wake up on time to hav e its exhibit of grain entered at the Lewis and Clarke fair. Surely there will be no repeti tion of the Sleepy Hollow policy. We take it that progress and growth is desired by the majority of the citizens of the county, that more settlers are wanted here to develop the resources of this section of Oregon. If these things appeal to you, get in the music car and blow boosting notes for a greater Condon. This is no poetical effusion. It is but the echo of the march of progress wafted on the zephyrs from the "publicity promoters" of every progressive town in Oregon, from the dead ones, you hear nothing. It's the town that wakes up that gets there. With the ascendency of the star of William Howard Taft, of . Ohio, in the political firmament, it is natural that the press cor respondents should devote some attention to the Republican nom inee's estimable wife. The press correspondents are always in the alert to give the -world some fresh" and interesting bits of timely news. in an. interview Mrs. Taft is quoted among other things as saying: "I have always believed that women should vote. I fav or bestowing upon' them every civic right, but I should like to put a prohibitory, clause disbar ring them from running for public office." Just how Mrs. Taffs views will be received by Oregon suffragists will prove of interest While essentially a home wo man, Mrs. Taft i3 also one of the favorites in Washington society. She is a great reader of standard fiction and has kept herself informed on all subjects that interest her husband or touch his career. She is also a musician of note and a linguist The nation will have as much reason to be proud of her in her sphere as of her husband in his when addressed as Mr. President The enemies of Senator Bourne will not flaunt into his face the epithet of "quitter." He was persistent to jthe last for the "second elective term." According to the new ruling of of the Postal Department at Washington, D. C, newspapers cannot be sent to subscribers who are more than k year in .arrears. There are subscriptions coming due each week nd those wish ing The Globe continued should either call at the office or. write to have 'their subscriDtions renewed for another year.
