The will of the people is supreme in Oregon and cheer ful submission to it will make disappointment the easier to bear. Throughout the state party lines were broken and voters chose the man irrespective of his political affiliation. The defeat of H. M. Cake by Geo. E. Chamberlain was in a measure due to the factional strifes in the Republican party and Mr, Cake's apparent luke-warm attit ude on Statement No. One dur ing the last campaign. Here in the district comprising Gilliam, Sherman and Wheeler, the victory is distinctly . the people's victory. It means new leadership and emancipation from the one-man power. The result of Monday's contest will hasten the return to true Repub licanism. The victory of Messrs. a a ? . mariner ana JacKson over Messrs. Donnelly and Pike means just that thing. Senator Bowerman received a severe jolt in his home county winning over Mr. Edwards by only 67 votes. The strength of the or ganization behind Bowerman contributed much to his success; The triumph of James E. Bur- J.a r -i uen, over j. a. isomer was a happy surprise to the friends of the young Arlington lawyer. The battle is over; some of the candidates have been re-elected because of their good records and the newly elected officers if true to their promises should give Gilliam county a clean and honest administration. There are losers to whom The Globe extends sympathy for most of them were good men worthy of respect and confidence. Citation.
