Williamson' Shearing Plant and Sheep Shad at Prineville Lead to Startling Disclosure. The Bend Bulletin prints the fftiinwinir about the recent law lessness that has occurred at Prineville: Are the hidden facts In regard to tho long list of crime, mid night "murders, shootings and lynchintfs that were so common around Prineville some 10 or 20 Vhm m altftut to be eiven the light of publicity? Are the men who were roBponsible for those crimes about to receive punish nM tnr which their dastardly deeds of former years entitle them? These are tho questions that are paramount in the minds of all those who have heard the latest developments in a recent case' of lawlessness in the vicinity of Prineville. Tt U snorted that Larkin K. r.iiintt- who ia under arrest and confined in the county jail for rnmnlic tv in the burning or J. N Williamson's shearing plant and cutting of a mile and a half of Williamson's fence has peacn hia confederates, not only in this last deed, but has also told the authorities who were the murrWera of "Shorty" Davis, a wealthy sheepman who disap peared some eight or nine years ' nottimdof whom no trace has been found from that day to this. Since beinir confined in jail El liott has confessed to setting the fire and cutting the fence on the Williamson nlnce. stating that he was hired by C. Sam Smith, the er-nheriff. and that Smith and his son were present and had a hand in the deed. These men were immediately placed under arrest and are now in jail. After disclosing these interest- ncr facta, it is reported that El liott also said, "Well, I'm not the onlv criminal in Crook coun ir Thorn nrn a lot of others. I ran tell vou who killed "Shorty" Davis and can take you to where his body is buried." What other diRclosures are made is not known, but it is reported that he has implicated 22 persons living at Prineville and vicinity, some of them prominent business men and stock raisers. . It is known, however, that Sheriff Elkins and District At torney Menefee took Elliot and drove out into the country. Up on returning they refused to talk and would not Bay whether or not they had found Davis' re mains or anything to substantiate Elliott's story. Their silence would indicate that their search had not been n vain. Prineville is on the keen edge of excitement oatn what will follow. Elkins and Menefee hint that more ar rests will follow, and the sheriff is reported to have said, 'There will he hell Dooping next week." It will be remembered that "Shorty" Davis was a wealthy sheepman living southeast, of Prineville who mysteriously dis appeared about eight years ago. No trace of him has ever been found and it has been generally believed he was murdered. Cat tie men hate with a dire hatred all sheep and sheep men, and if Davis was killed it was in order to rid the range of his sheep, The recent depredations commit ' ted against Williamson and other sheepmen are undoubtedly in tended to produce the , same re minds of the people ia whether hn rat haa not at last been let out of the bag by one of the crowd confessing and whether the gang that carried things with such a high hand a few years' auro are not about to re ceive their just desserts for the crimes thev committed when tne country was so new that law and order could not be enforced. A Communication, Condon, Ore., April 27th Editor Globe: Would like to make a few comments if admissable. With all due respect to all candi dntiA will lust ask the Times ed itor WHY W. J, Edwards has not inof oa onnA a riffht to Cftflt tUB e"" Jim Crow' into the ring as any other man in Gilliam County. He came here when Gilliam, Wheel er and Sherman were all in one county with The Dalles as the county seat He endured all tne hardships and privations of a new country, helping to make thia country just what it Is by the sweat of his brow, doing honest labor and being an Amer loan Wn citizen and raising his sons to honorable manhood, edu cating them at Oregon institu tions, imbuing their home train tnor with honesty and the up building of a spotless character and. if I m stake not, an Oregon born man, then why not pitch his 'Jim Crow' into the ring; why should he be dubbed a 'forlorn hope'?. I should like to ask the citizens of the three counties which he aspires to represent, who has a better right to repre sent the Deoole than W. J. Ed wards?. He has always worked for the advancement of the three counties both in private and pub lie and beinar a farmer knows just what the farmer needs in th wav of legislation. I would ask if the men who shouldered the burdens and privations of earlier dava have no right to as pire for representation in any of th nuhl c offices? irutn is stronirer than fiction and the neonle could not put up a man I x - with a cleaner record both in pn vate and public life than W. J. Pwarda and Mr. Time loses a score by his 'Jim Crow' and for lorn hone' notices. GRANGER Will Visit Clillam, Sherman, Morrow and Umatilla Coun ties. Will be In Condon on Tuesday Morning May 12.
