The proposition was brought forth that all the arcs should be kept burning until twelve o'clock on ly, provided the lights cpuld be secured at half of the present cost Nothing official has been done however. The matter of cutting down the city's ex penses was further discussed in the way of reducing the salary of Jay Barr, who is manager of the city water works.- The pres ent salary is $100 per month with house furnished, as well as the use of the orchard and ground on the city farm. It seems that Beveral applications ioi the posi tion have already been made. Nothing official was done. The matter of equalizing the water rent was also brought be fore the council. Nothing has yet been done but an effort is to be made to fix the system in some way to charge the users for the exact amount that they use. A special meeting vas called for Monday evening of this week to come to some agreement on these matters but the meeting did not materialize. The busi ness will now probably be laid over until the next regular meeting.;-' ',- . , ;, -; , 1 There is a great deal of talk among the music lovers jn Con don of starting a band and those who are interested in this sub ject are requested to meet at the Armory Hall next week Monday evening to discuss the matter. Miss Hershner is taking the state examination this week for a life paper. , Lilfie Amend and Bessie Searcy gave some very 'interest ing, current events at our last assembly. At the end of this school year there will 'be no pupils promoted unless they have completed the required work,, and that' will be impossible if they are not in reg ular attendance or if they quit school two or three months be fore the final examinations. The pupil who wishes to go ahead with his or her class must plan accordingly.. Several pupils are still ' out of 'school on the account of sickness. After the discusion of the merits of the ways of meeting the necessary expenses, it was de cided to solicit subscriptions as last year and ",have all entries and admissions free, also that the premium lists be printed. DEEDS OVER MI'iKS ACRE It is expected that ground will be broken as soon as the weather permits for the erection of the new St Thomas Aquinas School building. , Definite plans for the building have not as yet been completed, as changes had to be made in the specifications of the "plans turned in some days ago, which would have made a handsome brick costing $40,000.00. The changes, however, will call for a large, substantial brick, cost ing about half the former sum. The deeding over of an acre of land to the school by Mrs. Lizzie Cottin a few days ago, which fronts the street and joins the acre given by Mayor Dunn, will make a most beautiful -building site for the new building. Condon will have reason to be proud of the new school and the advantages to be offered. Mrs. H. ?P. Strickler enter tained a few friends in her rooms in the Condon National Bank building on last Saturday after noon. The ladies spent a very enjoyable afternoon. 1 43 ljo lie ljc IJo ljc Ho RXE1 1-2 CTS U Ho PER POUND. Ho lja To clear surplus stuck lc 1 Jo Gill wm 1C0.
