The original issue of clearing house certificates has been retir ed and a new scries put into cir culation by the Portland Clearing House Association. The new currency, although being printed in the same denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20, are much different from the original issue and closely resemble the Nation al bank note. They are printed on both sides of a paper having an unusual yellowish tinge which would be very hard for counter feiters to reproduce. Every safeguard possible was employed in their printing to prevent coun terfeiting one of the precautions being that each certificate bears the signature of one of the mem bers of the committee represent ing the Clearing House Associa tion. On the face appears a lion's head. The face was de signed by Irwin-Hodson Co. and the back by Dushong & Co. The great majority of Ameri can citizens only know there are new $10 coins in circulation be cause they read it in the papers. Alabama has now gone dry.
