About Condon globe. (Condon, Gilliam Co., Or.) 189?-1919 | View Entire Issue (Dec. 6, 1907)
FIewsTf the week 1 Through the efforts of the peo ple of Spray and of that vicinity, a gojd road around the Shelf Rock grade has just been com pleted. This road will now make a good route of travel into Spray for the people up the river and will be a boon to them as well as to the enterprising town of Spray. These same "good road builders" are now agitating an other improvement, a rood around the Black Rock which would put them over five miles nearer Fossil or this city than by the present route of travel. In an editorial the Spray- Courier has the following: "We have heard several persons Bay that they would give both money and work and many more would give work. The business men in Spray and the ranchers around town could well afTord to give $500 in money and as much more in work. With this work com pleted and the cut off from Win lock to Condon finished our freight depot would be many miles closer than it now is. Then Condon would draw much of the trade from up the river which now goes to Heppner and it would all have to pass through here thus helping our own town. This work will not do itself, so who will be public spirited enough to start a movement with this end in view?" The work on the streets com menced . this week. The old spring which for, many years was the only source of water for the town, is being filled up with rock. The rock crusher although having worked a few days on the Jackson place north of town, has not started steady work as yet but will as soon as a sufficient force of men can be found.
