In last week's issue of the
Times appeared a column and a
half article in which the
political editors of the "emerald
sheet" denounce us as socialists
and fools. After carefully look
ing into this we have concluded
that the writers are not "res
ponsible for their outbursts and
their comments have passed by
as the chaff before the winds.
The Condon football team has
received another challenge from
the Fossil gridiron warriors, the
game to be played on the 22nd
of this month during the Cale
donian meeting. It is now up to
Condon to show these fellows
that challenging and playing
football are two different things.

with relatives in Portland and

Wm. Looney was in town from
his Ferry Canyon ranch this
week. While paying this office
a call Mr. Looney told of the
large amount of wheat yet un
threshed in his part of the county.
He thinks it will take until the
middle of next month to finish
threshing the crop. Many have
not yet sold as haulers are scarce
and the raise in wheat a tempt
ation to hangon.
Wm. Scholtes, who in company
with Smith gave several, wrest
ling exhibitions here a couple of
years ago, threw E. N. Davis,
crack wrestler of Seattle, three
falls out of five at The Dalles
fair.
