of Cuptaln icslle, the well-known
wrecking exiiert of Kingston, Out
With a full passenger list and valua
ble cargo, the Bavarian ran on Wye
Hock, thlrty-elgbt miles below Quebec,
on the eight of Nor. 8, 1D05. Many of
the Bavarian's compartment tilled
with water, and tho ship settled down
ou the rocks. The ship's bottom plates
were badly torn, and when the wreck
era mado an examination It was declar
ed that the floating of the vessel would
be a most difficult Job.
After the Allans bad worked for sev
ernl weeks to get the vessel off she waa
turned over, to Lloyds, and the under
writers set to work to save their
money. All the old method for rais
ing vessels were employed, and failed.
At last the underwriters gave It up.
The big liner lay on the rocks
throughout the whole of 'the winter,
and when spring came, and It was seen
that the vessel had not suffered from
the winter storms, hopes began to re
vive that perhaps she might yet be
saved. Captain Leslie visited the
wreck and after a careful examination
care It as bis opinion that the big ves-
