It took the Oregon Legislature but a few brief weeks to make ap propriations which will aggregate about 13.570.000 and earn for them- solve the unenviable reputation of being the most ex Ira vagaut legisla ture in the biwtory of the state. The startling statement is made in Sunday's Oregonian that toe Oregon state Senate was practical ly dominated by the corporators throughout the entire session of the Legislature. Their lobbyists were omnipresent at Salem and their influence was apparent both iu committee rooms and on the floor of the Senate. With the ex ception of the railroad commission bill, they were able to stifle every bill whioh threatened to injure their special interests. Aside from local measures, but little has been accomplished by by the legislature whioh will be of benefit to the people of the whole state. The railway commission bill is perhaps the only important measure that was able to run the gauntlet. The banking law can hardly be said to give the relief de manded by the depositors. ' The state will oontinue to support four normal schools,, tax legislation failed and nearly every bill Whioh did not ' meet with the approval of the corporate interests was either pigeonholed in the com mittee rooms or defeated on the floor of the House or Senate. With all due respeot to the distinguished 1907 law givers it must be said that oertain changes in the person nel of the next Legislature would not come amiss. . Treasurer's Notice.
