smaller the office the greater the

ed from the publio tit and made to
rustle an honest living in the same
manner as the friends who secured
his election.
In looking over the field of presi
dential possibilities there is perhaps
do active or receptive candidate for
that high offioe who oomes nearer
representing the progressive ele
ment of the republican party than
Secretary Taft. While believing
in the sound principle of protection
he is unquestionably of the opinion
that there should be a change i
the present tariff sohedule. H is
also generally understood that he
is in full acoord and sympathy
with the President on every othe
