Coninl Commander In an editorial thia wek the Morning Oregonian suggest a re organisation our ytera of court The plan, aa proposed by the Ore gon, contemplate the establish iiient of a cirouit court in each county which will have jurisdic tion of all caea now brought in both the county and circuit court! and the limitation of the jurisdic tion of the county court to that of a C(iiitiiiioner' court for the transaction of county business. Conaideriug the fact that the coun ty judge are aeldoin learned in the law and the great inoonvenience that i occasioned by the present yitein of large circuit the plan is undoubtedly a good one and we believe it will meet with the ap proval of the pre and people of Oregon in general. Harmony waa hardly thedimtin guishing characteristic of the meet ing of Oregon Equal Suffrage Asso ciation held in Portland last Satur day for the purpose of electing of ficer for the ensuing year. Two ticket were placed in the field by rival faction and of course the natural and logical result waa a hitter tight. Stinging epithets and bitter word were used and the de feated faction threaten- to withdraw from the Association. About the only cry that wasn't set up was that of graft but there i still plen ty of time for that when we remem ber that the woman suffrage move ment is, comparatively speaking, a new thing in Oregon. Well, any way it is better for the husbands of the delegate that they were in Portland fighting among themselv es, Instead of ohewing the rag with their spouse in their own sweet, happy home. We acknowledge on two or three different occasion calls from rep resentative of patent medicine companies who desire to advertise in this paper. When they an nounce their mission they are al ways told politely but firmly that it would be useless to talk further about the matter. Usually this ha been sufficient and they bid us good day, but this week it was not enough for a neatly dressed young man who, of course, had the usual story of a good proposition and knew that we were making a great mistake by not at least giv ing him a respectful hearing. We were asked point blank why we refuted to run patent medicine ad wliteuients in our paper and re plied that w did not propoie to make this paper a medium for Im position upon the public and had no respect for a man who made luch a proposition to u. We re gret that these advertisement have found a place iu our patent iheets but assure our readers that they are there through no fault of our own and hope that it will not be long before we can make arrage went to have them discontinued. After reading for some month a paper entitled "The Appeal to Rea son", or more commonly known a The Appeal to Passion", the writ er ha come to the conclusion that the Socialist party standi for anar chy, crime, riot and about every thing that i opposed to good gov ernment and good morals. It eeius to be the teaching of this party that a man should be a lazy, indolent human parasite, hating everything and everybody except himself, and having a deep rooted contempt for law and order. Thete germ of socialism, which are noth- ng more or less than the eetd of discontent, have been own broad cast over the country by the Ap peal to Reason, the Hearst news papers and other yellow cur in the field of journalisu., for the sole purpose of advancing the pecuniary or political interests of the proprie tors, and still there are intelligent men and women who will tolerate this class of publication. There seems to be considerable doubt, after all, whether denatured alchobol will prove such a boon as I . a. aw oas oeeu predicted lor u. we are told that the product will be man ufactured by large establishments, and that forty cent a gallon is a cheap as the consumer may expect to buy it. Perhaps it won't hit Rockefellar as hard as the people hoped it would, Telegram. Frofeaslonal Directory yylLMAM H. K0RNIBR00K LAWYER Office In Guibi Building, opposite Coott Moose.
