the Second Congressional District,
that William H. Kllia will receive
a majority in practically every
county. Reports which have been
received here during the part week
five the Pendleton roan the lead
in Eastern Oregon, and the indica
tionsin Umatilla and Morrow are
that he will get more votes in thone
two counties than all the other
candidates will receive. In the
down river counties the impular
Judge has developed great strength
during thd past week, and the
workingmen along the river are
working like Trojans to give him a

were always as sure of having a
good crop of wheat as they are of
having a good crop of candidates
for public ollioe, there would be no
end to their future prosperity.
One noticable feature in connec
tion with the new primary law is
the fact that the professional pol
iticians and "wire pullers" are un
able ro forcast with any degree of
certainty the result of the primary
election on this 20th day of April.
This fact alone furnishes the best
evidences that the new law, al
though perhaps defective in parts,
has served its purpose. The law
was aimed at "boss rule". The
aim and purpose of its champions
was to take from the hands of the
professfonal politician the power of
making the nominations for politi
cal office and placing that power
in the hands of the people. The
most ardent supporters of the law
could not expect it to accomplish
its entire purpose but they do be
lieve that it will prove a valueable
check to the power and prestige of
"boBsism".
