PLAY BALL.
It Is an old Haying, and worthy
of all acceptation, that whatever
is worth doing at all is worth do
ing well. This axiom may bo ad
vantageously applied to any and
all of the activities of this world,
even to playing base ball. Condon
is supposed to have a ball team
this season, but has she?
A wise old man was once asked
the question by a young man,
"What must I do to succeed in
life?" and the answer " was, "Suc
ceed, and all kinds of suocess will
then be vours." Were this same
old gentleman asked the question
by the town of Condon, "What
must our ball team do to be able
to play ball well enough to defeat
every other ball team in this o
tion of the state?" The answer
would no doubt be, "Play ball, play
ball, play ball, and all kinds of
success on the diamond will be
vours." Practice must be the
watchword, the keynote, the ever
present, all prevading spirit, not
only of the players but of every
citizen of the town who is enough
a "live one" to stand behind the
team for the sake of the sport and
for the sake of the glory of Condon
This writer has no desire to "roast"
the Condon team nor even to criti
cize them only in the most kindly
spirit. lie believes that Condon
has the players who. if in practice
are amply able to do all kinds of
things with any other team within
their radius but, mark you, they
must be in practice. A majority
of the present team have helped
hold up the Condon colors in the
past and we all know their records
to be good. A year ago they were
well nigh invincible, and they can
easily regain their old position if
they will practice, if they will play
ball. But in order to do this they
are entitled to and must have the
moral and material support of
every citizen of the town. They
must be encouraged, not handicap
jped; they must be helped, not
hindered.
The town should make it possi
ble for the players to have at least
two hours practice three times a
week and this without any pecuni
ary loss to the players. Men and
brothers, it's un to the town. If
Condon is to haye many hides

of this season she must help the
players to get in practice and then
