Now just take a look at those beautiful locust trees and and then pre pare to set out some of your own this Fall. A. A Carothers and L.W. Darling each have a fine grove of locusts th for mer being the finest grove in tb county and both show what the locust will do. But when oue can't hav a who) grove it might be possible to have a few trees and it is better to bar on or two well kept, thrifty trees than a greater num ber of half starved ones. Of these 885, 463 males and 422 females, have been enrolled dur ing the year. The average dally attend- nco was 6v5. Fifty-six teachers were employed of which 15 were males and 41 females the former receiving an aver ege salary of $15 per month and the lat ter an averaiw of 140. Thirty-two of these war subscribers to some educa tional journal. There are 36 organized districts 34 of which made reports to the county superintendent as required by law. One school bouse waa built during the year. The total receipts for th year were 20130.33. Expenditure 118407.76. Covernor Takes Action. Governor Chamberlain baa Issued a proclamation to the various peace otfi cere of Grant, Baker, Crook, Wheeler and Harney counties urging them to be particularly vigilant in aurpressing lawlessness and disorder which may arise as a result of disputes between the sheep and cattle ownera or the settlers and outside stockmen. 'The governor says in conclusion i- "In the event of any trouble which the local authorities are unable to con trol an appeal to the state will meet with such response as the law will war rant in such emergency."
