L.L'J BE INTERESTING FA6TS About Condon and Gilliam Gountu,. Gilliam County lias a present population of about 4,(X)0. Conduit has present population of about GOO. Gilliam County contains mor than 500,000 acres of tillable Lvi-K ies th m one-third of which is mow in cultivation. Condon centrally located in the midst of this rich region and is the permanent county seat of the county. Have uou stopped to think what this means to Condon T It mean that the county when fully occupied will furnish homes for 40,000 people, and that Condon will, in less than five years htve a population of 4,000 or more. Taking these facts into account and the further fact that property has advanced 50 per cent during the past year it is reasonable to conclude that values will continue to advance rapidly within the next few years. It is the one day of the year when we Amer ican Kings swell out our manly chests with patriotic pom pesity and point with pride to the peerless pranks of our progenitors and then fill uprim full of booze and batter our beavers into smithereens in the exuberance of our joy. It is a great day. Some cynics strive to scoff at the . Glorious Fourth but it's no use. It ca't be downed. So long as this Union stands that long will the Fourth be remembered and cele brated. No matter if it rains or blows or is scorching hot; no mat ter if the lunch basket is heavy and the festive red aut numerous; no matter if the sage tick troubleth ine picnicer or tne mosquito buzz eth at hB ears, it is the Glorious Fourth and it must be celebrated. And it will be celebrated . if Con don, in this year of our Lord, with a hearty good will. Everybody will be here and everybody will en joy the day to the utmost. There will be something for everyone: Salutes and sunburn, fun and fire crackers, parades and prizefights, oratory and ornary kids, music and mad mammas, dinner and! dancing, plug uglies and pretty' girls, base ball and booze, horse racing and happy people. And the Godilebs of Liberty will look down from her exalted throne and will fay: "It is well some of these things enjoy yourselves uiy child ren while it is yet the Fourth of July fur tomorrow is the Fifth, the day of headaches and 'that tired feeling' when you will all have to go to work again. The German socialists gained 25 additional seals in the reichstag at Wednesday's voting which gives them a strong showing in a body where a few years ago they were as insignificant politically as they were weak numerically. In 1871 when socialism in Germany first attracted serious attention, the to tal vote polled was less than 125,000 Ten years later it was over 300,000; in 1890 nearly 1,500,000; in 1898 over 2,000,000, and it is now ap proaching 3,000,000. with a gain of 63,000 in the city of Berlin alone, as compared with the vote of three years ago. The socialists of Germany are not the extremists who have been commonly associated with this name. The party is composed largely of working people; its aim is to bring about a larger degree of equality and some of its doctrines might be considered radical, in view of the changes in form of gov ernment proposed. But as a par ty it is growing in intelligence and responsibility, and because of num erical strength, must inevitibly be come a force in German life. The success of the socialists, or social democrats as they are often called, is due in large measure to perfection in organization. It was decided long ago that the only way to make the party grow and keep it strong and durable was to make it rich in resources. And so every member contributes to the party fund, which is used for organiza tion, for propaganda and for such other pupoBes as the powerful ex ecutive committee approves. They pay their members of the reichstag the editors of the party papers, and the preachers of their doctrine, but the members of the party are expected to work without pay on election day. Each individual member is kept in close touch with the party as a whole, and, as an harmonious force, working for a common end, the German social democratic party is one of the most effective in the world.
