It w strong enough to edit its pages regardless of any other power even that of its own adver tisers. The measure of the power and popularity of the independent newspaper id in the ratio of its fidel ity to this creed. Its ideal is high. ut the growing weakness of parti san bonds has given it unusual op portunity. And by the same token its prosperity is tbe phenomenon of newspaperdciu in tbe last decnde. The day of the party organ is over. The partisan newspaper holds nei ther the confidence nor affection of its readers as it once did. The par ty newspaper has been found out. Its readers have discovered that its news is either special or colored to puit, and that its opinions are in evitably biased. Its deliverances are no longer received as gospel. The eighth grade is through the year's work in geography and the seventh grade have finished their work in Civil Government. Johnnie Dunn has been promoted from the fi ret to the second grade.
