The city conncil met In regnlar session Monday evening and after attending to routine business among which wa the auditing and allowing of bill to th amount of (179 61 and th granting of a petition asking to have ft side walk con structed on, the west fide of Church street from Hpnng alreet to the line of Trimble & Brown' addition. After these minor matter were attended to matter began to warm op an I thing began to happen. A petition, numerously signed by cltiisnt, w presented by Keeorder May, asking to have the ordinance pro hibiting gambling, and alao the Sunday closing ordinance enforced. Th .re- eorder stated that while he knew that th poasr to Instruct the marshal to en force the ordinance wa vested In him, he wished to have an eipresslon from the council on the matter to he won Id know whether or not they would stay with him If he started In to enforce the law. Afteran Informal discussion of the matter by the member a vote wa taken and It wa carried unanimously to In- ft atroct the recorder and the marshal to enforce the ordinances. The council then went the petitioners one better and unanimously voted to amend the license ordinance raising loon license from (400.00 to 1000.00 a year. Thi action means that gambling must atop, saloons mnttcloee at 12 p. in. Saturday nights and remain closed until 12 p.m. Bumlay. AH of the saloon have recently renewed their license so that the raise will not effect them for another si i months. .
