THE COIIDOII GLOBE THURSDAY. JULY 3I.I002. Call miothww fool and you are the Aol; call yourself a fool and ymi iM'giu to be wise.. SoJuinon, tpinple Niwjust been Hiwi)wrMl in lite HoW La ml. The mMuirt- .l!v. nut Kirttc whether or miC wiry of the numerous M r. Sol-. Mttrmawere at home when thedis ewtry mw made. Condon, i not a "boom" town by any mean, hut it ift the fastest growing town iu Eastern Oregon this Summer. Just mention the fact when writing to your friends or, letter mill, have the Globe eent to them for six months or a year," then-they'll know all about Li. Perliaps never before has there been a case pecorded where the au thorities of any prison offered a big reward for the capture and re- ftirtv, dead or alive," of an escaped convict and then doubled their wall guards and established an outside nrdon of sentinels to prevent the same felTow from breaking in and raiding the institution. But that was the situation at Salem last week. This new disease, tracyitis, is a peculiar malady and has many curious complications. Every newspaper measures up in its memory the names of its friends and likewise those of it's en emies. It seldom overlooks an opportunity to assist the former, bnt.it never goes out of the way to helD the latter. Human nature is pretty much the same everywhere. People who 6bow the newspaper man a kindness nerer made a bet ter investment, one that pays - hundred fold, sooner or later. As has- been truly said, there comes a trmei every man's life when he needs bis home paper and peecfs it bad. Ex. A Poor Millionare Lately starved in London becanse he eould not digest his food. Early use of Dr. King's New Life Pills would have saved him. They strengthen the stom ach., aid digestion, promote assimilation, improve - appetite. Priee 25c.. money back if not satisfied. Sold by Condon Pharmacy - ' MODERN FA NING t BEFORE HEALTH. The chief evil nowadays lies in the- well-nigb universal fawning and cowering before wealth, in the blind scramble for fortune and fa vor. We are taught to act a part, when we should embody a princi ple. We stoop over and walk on all fours when we should stand erect remembering the stars above u. Many of the hangers-on of the millionaire are mere fawners and flatterers seeking to push their way into the social swim. Other classes who bend at his feet 8re working people who are dependent on him for food and shelter. Thomas Hughes said lcng ago that we may not be able to hinder people in general from being help less and vulgar from letting them selves fall into slavery to things about them, if they are rich, or from aping the habits and vices of the rich, if they are poor. But, as he says, we may live simple, manly lives ourselves, speaking our own thoughts, paying our own way and doing our own work what ever that may be. We shall re main gentlemen as long as we fol low these rules even if we have to sweep a crossing for a livelihood. The mortal bane in all this mon ey worship, this toadyism and time serving is the effect it has on the bouI of the toady and time-server. It calls his attention away from the real and the permanent in life to the false and the fleeting. It robs him of the idea that character is the chief glory of man. When to character we add culture we come into an inheritance more durable than time and richer than all the kingdoms of this world. Edwin Markham, in Success. It Dazzles The World. No discovery in medicine has ever cre ated one quarter of the excitement that has been caused by Dr. King's New Dis covery for Consumption, Its severest tests have been on hopeless victims of Consumption, Pneumonia, Hemorrhage, Plenrisy and Bronchitis, thousands of whom it lias restored to perfect health. For Couirhs, Colds, Asthma, Croup, Hay Fever, Hoarseness and Whooping Cough it is the quickest and surest cure in the world. For sale by Condon Pharmacy who guarantee satisfaction or refund niiiiev. If the noted" gentleman sRooW Imppen to only be in a trance when put on exhibiton he might eorae to life, shoot out the lights; stampede the audience, capture the bos office re ceipts and play hob generally. But then he is not dead yet The Same Old Story. J. A. Kf lly (elates an experience sim ilar to that which has happned in almost every neighborhood in the United States anl has been told and re-told by thous ands of othes. "Last saimner I had an attack of dyeentery and purchased a bot tle of Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhwa Remedy which I used accord ing to directions and with entirely satis factry results. Y., says: Ialways recommend Chamberlain's Pain Balm as the best liniment tor strains. I nsed it last winter for a severe lameness in the side, resulting from a strain, and was greatly pleased with the qnick re lief and enre it effected." For sale by Condon Pharmacv. An exchange gives this opinion of women: "There is gladness in her gladness when she's glad there is sad ness in her eadness when she's end but the gladness of her gladness nor the sadness of her sadness is nothing to her madness when she's mad. There is kicking in her kickness when she kicks there is licking in her licking when she licks but the kicking of her kickness nor the licking of her lickness is nothing to her nixness when she's nix. There is crossness in her crossness when she's cross there is glossing in the glossness of her gloss but the cross ness of her crossness nor the glossing of her glossness is nothing to her bossing when she's boss." Summer complaint is unusually pre valent among children this season. A well developed case in the writer's fam ily was cured last week by the timely line of Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy one of the best pat ent medicines manufactured and which is always kept on hand at ihe home of ye scribe.
