Traveling men who make all parts of the Northwest say that Condon is the most talked of of any inland town in Oregon this mtnuier. ..The fame of our -lively town and rich wheat fields has gone forth to all parts and the people are watching as and keeping cases on our coming boom. : That yVurtjflving of ttyairi should be laid, not too gently, across his mother's knee and spanked until he would be obliged to take bis weals standing for a week. If that failed to teach him proper re spect for bis ; matew&l ancestor 4et shonld have portraits of G. Dewey and T. Roosevelt hung in his bed chamber. If this last plan should fail to.bring bioi o "bia senses be would have to be consideaed "bug house" beyond redemption and a gouer. The claims of Oregon Indian AVar veterans will have to take their regular course in the Pension Office. This was reasonably to be expected, though many hoped it would be otherwise, and pur dele gation in Congress urged that they receive special consideration. Hew- ever, not more than six months will elapse before these claims are reached and.'.aeted.; upon in their regular order. In the meantime, tbe patient veteran, leaning upon his staff, may repeat sadly with Tennyson m ins story of "Jtuocn Arden:" As I have waited all mj life I well way wait little. The lesson of "waiting" has in this casebeen well learned. ' ;It can only be hoped that each of these beneficiaries of tardy pension legis lation will live many years to enjoy the quarterly stipend, which, when once ita payment beginBf can be de pended Vpon as a regular interpo sition between him and poverty's sharp pinch. The following is the rule used by the government in measuring hay that it buys. We publish it as being of inter est to many of our readers: To find the number .f cubic feet in a stack of hay, first meaoure the distance from one side of its bane over the top to base of opposite side; measure distance across the bottom ; subtract the distance across tioitom from distance from lane to ha e over the top and divide the re mainder by two. Thie given the height of the atirck. Measure length of alack and multiply length breadth and height together and the result is the number of cubic feet in the stack. In a ton of hav that has been slacked 30 days, or over, there are 422 cubic feet. In newly stack ed hay the government measures 512 feet to the ton. Now is the Appointed Time.
