Might Have Been Serious.
What might have beeu a serious acci
dent occurred on the Matney Flat road
one day last week when John Knos was
on hit way to th timber with hit freight
wagont. Mr, Knos had just met and
pasted R. Do Neui's team when from
some onknown cause hi horses became
frightened and turned around In the road
apsetting the lead wagon. Just as the
wagon turned over Mr. De Neol stopped
hit team and Mr. Knos't leaden ran In
to lb rear of hit wagont which stopped
them. Mrs. E. K. Fair, of Lost Valley,
was in the wagon with Mr. Knox and
when the wagon turned turned over her
foot caught in the teat spring holding
her fast. Had the team met with no ob
stacle It is likely that they would have
ran and perhaps dragged th lady to
death. A It was she was speedily re
leased from ber perilous position aud
fortunately escaped without so much as

More Sheep Shooting.
The strained situation with regard to
summering sheep In the mountains
growt more and more intense. While

ten days ago 153 head were killed by 12
masked men, who also burned tbe cam p.
Later a large quantity of stock salt
mixed with stryehnine was found on
Keeton creek where sheep are accus
tomed to pass enroute to the moun
tains. The Woolgrowers' Association of
Wheeler county held ft secret meeting
at Mitchell tbe other' day, to devise
meant to protect their rights. Many
herders are quitting, aa they do not like
to pose as targets for the guns of infur-
