been in Colorado and Nebraska for the
past three months visiting friends arriv

Stewart says he had a good trip and en
joyed himself to the limit but Is glad to
be back to grand old Gilliam once more.
Me visited the famous San Luis valley
in Southwestern Colorado and was better
pleased with that country than any he
visited. The valley Is over 7,000 feet

artesian wells and wonderful crops are
produced. Mr. Stewart thinks of going
to Fossil soon to "dust the jacket" of his
big brother Jim for publishing certain

Killed at Arlington.
R, R, llatikins, an old resident of Ar
lliigton, was shot and ImUotly killed by
City Marshal T. briweeuu, at that place
last Thursday afternoon.

Tbe Ladles' Aid Society of Mayvllle,
gave a very successful entertainment at
that place last Friday evening. A large
eowd wae present the ball being packec
to Its utmost capacity. Tbe highly en
tertaining drama "Joslah'i Courtship"
was excellently rendered by local talent
the acts being Interspersed with good
music by the Mayvllle Cornet Band.
An excellent recitation was given by tbe
little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Town
send and some floe acrolmtic specialties
by Fred Edwards audited by Jtle brother
Bert. After tbe drama a substantial
and appetising lunch was served and
then the floor was cleared for dancing
which lasted ontil a late hoar. The pro
ceeds of the evening amounted to over
$50 which will be used for providing sub
stantial steps to the church. The La
dies' Aid and those who assisted are to
be congratulated on the high degree of
socceee attained. Nearly 20 people at
tended from this place and all enjoyed
the occasion to the utmost. The May

and their hospitality and courtesy to the
stranger within their gates is proverbial.

op fop preliminary hearing in Justice
Angell'i court at Mayvllle Monday, the
case wai dismissed in that court and a
new complaint made and warrant issued
from the circnit court. Sheriff Wilcoi
started to Mayvllle Monday morning to
serve tbe second warrant but met Still
well and ivreral other Mayvllle citizens
coining thii way. The sheriff took Ira
Carter in custody aa a suspicious charac
ter and brought him to townbnt released
biro upon Ira promising to register and
vote the democratic ticket at the next
election. Stillwell was held In the sum
of 12,000 bond for hil appearance at cir
cuit court the same being furnished by
Ira Carter, B. K. Searcy and J. I). Liv
ingston. ,
