Condon public school will take place in
the Armory hall Friday June 7th. All
patron an I friends of the achod are
invited to bo present. Every citizen
should make it a point to attend these
exorcises as by so doing they are giving
aid and encouragement to the cause of
education.
We acknowledge receipt ofanlnvl
ratlon to attend the annual reunion of
the Wheeler County, Oregon, Pioneers,
to bo held at Richmond, June 12th. and
13th. All pioneers, Indian war veterans
and native sons and daughters are invi
ted. The people wilt camp on the
Kroumla for a couple of days and have a
regnlnr old fashioned pioneer's camp
meeting, sana Indian massacres, sans
famine, earns everything unpleasant. '
The Heppnor Qaieite came out last
week under new management. Fred
Warnock and E. P. Michell have pur
chased the paper from J..W. Rodington
and are now at the helm. Their first
ineue, w hile lacking perhaps in some of
the uniqueness which characterized the
paper under J. W's. management, shows
marked improvement in local new eer-
vice and makeup. We with the brothers
all kinds of success.
Chas. E. Hicks, late publisher of the
Arlington Independent, and B. B. Bax
ter, late high chief executioner of the
Gi,onn force, were in town Thursday on
their way to California where they will
enend the Summer picking up what
nuggets they may find lying around on
the surface and prospecting for othere
underground. They will make the trip
on bicycles going down but if the nugget
crop Is good and they make a good clean
up they may charter an" armored ex
press train to return In. We wish them
abundant success in their venture.'
The people of upper Rock creek will
hold a neighborhood piunto at Flett's
. grove Tuesday June 4th. Every body is
invited and ft eood comfortable, old
fashioned time la promised. A specie

schools of the county and It is hoped
each school will prepare a program for
the occasion. An old fashioned basket
dinner will be served with free lemonade
in plenty. Don't forget the date and

J. L. Paul, one of the prominent far
mer of the Rock creek region, wa in
town Tuesday. Mr. Paul haa recently
had drilled well completed on his
ranch and now haa a bountiful supply of
pure water which, be says, la a luxury
few people can folly appreciate unless
they have hauled water, as he has done,
for 10 or 12 year. Ills well la 121 feet
deep and la equipped with ft wind mill
which forces Uie water 200 feet up the
hill to hi house and barn. He report

promising.
They All Passed..
The eighth grade examination of the
Condon public school which wa held
here last Thursday, Friday and Satur
day resulted in every one of the eight
Piembers of the class passing most cred
itably. The members of the class have
been working like beavers for some time
and their success In pasaing the exami
nation without a single failure is well
earned and richly deserved.
After the atrain of the last few weeks
was over, and the fact was made known
that all had passed, the young people, to
use a slang phrase, "turned themselves
loose" and took the town ' by storm.
They were out for a good time and for
about four hours Saturday evening the
town waa their. Bprlngston A Rogers
treated the class to ft carriage ride and
everybody else in town treated them to
something if only their congratulations.

The event was a red letter day in the
history of the Condon public school for
everybody in towu seemed proud of the
class ef '01 and once the pride of a peo
ple is aroused It is hard to keep their
public Institutions In the back-ground,
there Is no doubt but that the school
year which la about to close has been the
most successful one in the history of our
school which may now be said to have
advanced well towards the first rank ol
similar Institutions in Eastern Oregon.
