That latent expir ing wail under the lying eaptiim The Truth" is sufficient to cawe its name to be handed flown to posterity as the weakest Weakly ever published. Our conjecture last" week has proved correct, vix., ft has dropped its latest lie aud at tempted to contrive a new one; but ye godti! what a contrive. The Weakly, two weeks a$o, ac cused the Globs of publishing iibclou sjmatter" abou f'respon sible citizens" and then charging them "exorbitant sums" for space in which to reply to the same, and of fered to "refresh" our memory by naminga few of our "victims." We challenged this journalistic Ananias to name them or to produce one iota of evidence to back up or es tablish the charge. He, it or they, as the case maybe, (we don't know who irresponsible for such drivel) utterly fails to carry out the bluff or to even attempt to da so, and iu a poor, weak, sniveling fashion at tempts to back out of the hole it has got itself into, by saying that the Globe "acknowledges to what we already said that he charged for the insertion of articles from parties, if such were for campaign purposes-. Of course we charge for campaign matter. So does ev ery other newspaper whose pub lisher is not an idiot; but when the Weakly says that we plead guilty to ''what it already said," which was in fact that we have slandered 4 responsible citizens" and then charged them "exorbitant sums" for space in which to reply, it sim ply places another very weak, miserable lie to its credit Yes, it has hatched out another one, but the brain from which it was evolv ed is surely addled, for the chick is puch a puny weakling. The Globe wishes to thank the Weakly for having brought out these lies in such a manner as to give us an op portunity of refuting them. For months the Globe has been the victim of falsehoods and misrepre sentations which have been circu lated privately in such a manner that it has been impossible for us to defend ourself and it has afford ed us much satisfaction to see the Weakly do just as it has done dur ing the last few weeks, i. e., brand itself as the most bungling liar this far west. Our files are open to the inspec tion of any one who may desire to inform themselves as to this mat ter, and if there is any person in the county who believes there is a grain of truth in any of the mali cious falsehoods and misrepresenta tions which have been published or circulated in regard to this pa per, we invite them to come in and point out wherein we have know ingly or wilfully wronged any man. The Globe is not given to boast ing, but on this occasion it may be pardoned for saying that hardly a day passes but we receive assur ances from "responsible citizens," many of whom are prominent re publicans, that our course is approved and that the course of our traducers and of those who have so unsuccessfully attempted to ruin us and our business i6 con demned. The day of reckoning will come, Weakly, and, while it is coming, if you have any good first-class, hard finished lie to spring, trot it out; if you have none any stronger than your former ones, for God's sake, shut up. A FAKE "HEALER." "Schlatter," or, as he styles him self, Rev. Cbas. McLean, the al leged "divine bealer" who created some excitement in Portland a few weeks ago and was later jailed in Seattle for vagrancy is now in Spo kane and seems to have about run An Honest Medicine for La Grippe. George VV. Waitt, of South Gardiner, Me., says: "I have bad the worst cough-, cold, chills and grip and have taken lots of trash of no acennnt but profit to the vendor. Chamberlain's Cough Koniedy is the only thing that has done any stood whatever. I have nsed one bottle of it and the chills, cold and (trip have all left ine. I congratu late the manufacturers of an honest medicine." For sale by The Hudson Pharmacy W. Crosfield, mar. his course. Hry C. 01neyr a newspaper man of thai city, who formerly lived in Denver, knew the origional Schlatter in that city in 1S95, and in a published state ment he denounces McLean ft a first-class humbug and faker. Such fellows can always tiud dupes, how ever, if they possess the required amount of "nerve" aud set up a claim to supernatural power. T. T. Barnum had the American peo pk pretty well sized up when he stated that they love to be bum bugged. Count Boni de Castellane the skinny little Frenchman whose titl Jay Gould's daughter pur chased with her mill;ons, has "fit" duel with a French newspaper man, in which the Count came off victorious "Bony" would better rest on his- laurels and stay in France. Should h get his head swelled and come to this country to fight every editor who has poked fun at him he wooKV find that he had a job on his hands, and might stand a chance of getting spanked. No American editor would nee a gun on him. Powder and shot are never wasted in this country on any game smaller than jack-rabbits or coyotes. Indications point to another big strike in the anthracite coal fields this Spring.. The miners have asked the operators to meet them in joint conference for the purpose of agreeing to a scale of wages for the coming year, but the operators have 60 far treated the workers with contemptuous silence. The miners, who are, after all, the real wealth producers, are entitled to fair treatment from their employ era, but with the entire coal busi ness in the control of a very few capitalists, they are not likely to receive such 'only at the end of another long and disastrous strike. The wool growers who refused 12$ cents for wool in 1900, after holding it over one year to find that wool has not increased in price, but depreciated to the tune of from 4 to 6 dents per pound, find themselves in doubt as to whether any particular political party can regulate the price of wool, or if supply and demand does not after all cut some figure in the regula tion of prices. Rockefeller's income from Standard Oil stock alone is $21, 000,000 a year. Yet he won't pay taxes, nor is compelled to on a hundredth part of his wealth. Such men as he and such a tax system are breeders of both socialism and anarchy. An Eastern professor thinks he has discovered that hell is located in Saturn. This well please a good many of our American politicians; Saturn has such large and beauti ful rings. Mrs. Nation, in her mild and re fined style alludes to the cigar as a death-dealing hellish thing. But perhaps the one she smoked was given her by some politician who had a friendly interest in the joint ists. In New York the other night the horses attached to a lady's carriage ran a short distance and she was scared. The reason this news was important enough to be telegraphed all over the world next day is that she married a cousin of Vice-President Roosevelt. Great is the name and fame of Teddy. Mr. Schwab, the president of the new steel trust, is to receive a sal ary of $1,000,000 a year. M r. Mor gan received a fee of $2,000,000 for engineering the deal. History furnishes no counterpart in private life to these stupendous robberies of producers and consumers, under the guise of salaries. Banker Routs A Robber. . J. H. Garrison, Cashier of the bank of Thornville, Ohio, had been robbed of health by a serious lung trouble nntil be tried Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption. Vatch, who ha been at Portland- for Ike st three mouths re ceiving medical treatment, has arrived at the home of her daughter hr, and seems to be touteahat improved in health. Oar energetic merchants made a rustle last week aud brwnght a sii-horse load tf flour from Mayville, and an eight horse load of merchandise from llepp ner. So, the sugar and flour famine is temporarily broken. The city election last week was like a jug handle, all on one side, from the fact that there were but 13 voters, and seven office to fill, and ot course there were only enough for one ticket, consequently they all voted Vr straight. By a mistake, which will occur some times even in a print shop, we failed to mention the result of the watch contest in our last issue. Miss Mary Foster was the successful contestant, her vote on the lasteveuiog running up several hun dred. The Arlington Warehouse Co. has a new ad. in this impression which will be of interest to wool and wheat growers. This house has been working hard for better wool rates from Arlington and it is probable with a good degree ot success. It is their Intention to put in a wool baler, and to make Arlington a wool market which will be second to none on the O. K. & N. line. Mrs. C. E. VanDeusen, of Kilbonrn, Wis., was afflicted with stomach trouble and constipation for a long time. She says, "I have tried many preparations bnt none have done me the good that Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tab lets have." These Tablets are tor sale at The Hudson Pharmacy. O. Carter, of Mon mouth, is teaching the school. Remarkable Cures of Rheumatism. I From the Vindicator, Jtuthtrfordton, N. C. Tbe editor of the Vindicator has had occasion to test tbe efficacy of Chamber lain's Pain Balm twice with the most remarkable results in each case. First, with rheumatism in tbe ehoulder from which be suffered excrnciating pain for. ten dave, which was relieved with two applications of Pain Balm, robbing the parts afflicted and realizing instant benefit and entire relief in a very short time. Second, in rheumatism in thigh joint, almost prostrating him with se vere pain, which was relieved by two applications, robbing with the liniment on retiring at night, and getting up free from pain. Edgar Dunlap and Herbert Clark are absent from that department.
