If, a person failed to register within tha legal time according to ':;'.n o of tha act of li!)9, to-wit, h :t.vHti January 1 and 5 o'clock p. i if the 15th day of May, he is -sarily disfranchised. There is .-..ii a remedy for him. Klectors who are not registered and who desire to vote at the preei d'jotiftl election, should lose no time in preparing the means for doing so. Registration blanks to le witnessed by six freeholders tan be obtained at the county clerk's office, n nd these may be sworn to before any notary public or justice of the peace. Young roen who have become 21 years old since June, and who were deprived of rogistra tion before, must fill out registra tion blanks, and ought to do so muiediately. Persons who have full citizenship papers who are not registered and who are otherwise qualified, should also have certifi cates filled out at once, if they do not want to be deprived of their votes. If a man registered before the June election and has since moved into another precinct from the one where he registered he must sub scribe an affidavit three times, and produce six freeholders who . will swear, in connection with his own affidavit, that they are personally acquainted with him and with his residence, and that they believe his statements to be true. The elector in such a case should hunt up six acquaintances, freeholders, before election, and have the necessary affidavits made before a justice of the peace or notary public; these presented to the judges of election will be sufficient. Otherwise he muBt have his Bix freeholder wit nesses appear before the election board at the time he presents his ballot, and the judges can take the aiSdaviia without the intervention of the justice of the peace or notary public, iiut trus causes delay in voting and it may not be easy at the last moment for the elector to collect six freeholders who can subscribe to tha necessary affidavit. If the voter will obtain a copy of the registration law and notice section 15 thereof, he will be able to steer his course clearly. tt -.'...tt tl.d Ir-.Kiici tJLl, , . the paopla ty which Lo' am,".-.-.! and is sua asiiassing bis wealth, ana strife M ail his power Co t2eet a reform in that direction, people might have more faith in- Ma sin cenfy. fe strenuously object even to an income-tax, and there is perhaps no other way amen ne could benetit so many people, and do it so effectively, a by paying a big income-tax. Telegram. yet in The ntbrac:.te coal trust is largely under the manipulation of J. P. Morgan, the very rich banker in New York. The coal railroads which are under this man's thumb are: The Reading railroad, capi talized for $77,000,000; the Lehigh valley railroad, $60,000,000; the Erie railroad, $187,000,000; the New York, Susquehanna and West era railroad, $70,000,000; Delaware and Hudson railroad, $30,000,000; Central railroad of New Jersey, $150,000,000; New York, Ontario and Western railroad, $60,000,000 a total capitalization of $690,000, 000. On this vast sum dividends are drawn by a handful of people, which to a large extent are manip ulated into the pockets of a specu lative clique of a set of gamblers in Wall street, while the men who toil in the mines are expected to bo content with a pittance. Capital and not "water" or moonshine capital is entitled to returns only after labor is paid a liberal wage. At present capital or what goes under tha name eatieSea Its greed first and leave to labor the pleas ure of "working for nothing" and boarding itself. Under a govern ment of the people the men should be considered first and the dollar afterwards. The Pittsburg Gazette says the labor ng classes should be satisfied with their lot because the poor peo ple have good health, while riches and high living destroy the health of the rich. Well, now, isn't that rich? It's good for the workers to starve a little so they will be healthy and can make the rich miserable by having too much! Ye gods and little fishes! What great brains control the daily press! The down trodden should chuckle every time they are robbed because the king will have more to induce the gout. The following editorial comment appeared in the Oregoniaa on May 4, ISffS. That paper talk differ ently now: -. "Already we are in one of the gravest perils of war the clamor for territorial aggrandizment. The fever of conquest once io the blood is hard to allay. We have no further rightful nse for the Philip pines than as a base of present operations and a hostage pending fiinal settlement A coaling station let us retain there, but our profes sions in this war debar us from re tention of even Cuba, which is more naturally within onr scope than the Philippines. If the war is prolonged we shall certainly see rapid growth of vehement demand for acquisition of territory we should not take. It may be strong enough to turn the scale of a presi dential election.
