TU O VOICES FROM THE PAST. Arbitrary governments may have territories and distant possessions. because arbitrary governments may rule them by different laws and different systems. We can do no such thine. They must be of us. part of us, or else strangers. think I see a course adopted which is likely to turn the constitution of the land into a deformed monster. into a curse, rather than a blessing in fact, a frame of an unequal gov ernment, not founded on popular rpnrfentation. not founded on - r , equality, but on the grossest ine qualitv; and I think that this pro cess will go on, or that there is dan eer that it will go on, until this Union shall fall to pieces. Resist it today and always. Whoever falters or whoever flies, I continue the contest." Daniel Webster. - "I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of mv country. As a result of the war, corporations have been en throned, and an era of corruption in hidi nlaces will, follow, and th money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its power by working upon the prejudices of the people until all the wealth is aggre gated in a few hands and the re public destroyed. I feel at this mo ment more anxiety for my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspi cions may prove groundless." .Abraham Lincoln. : Couuty Court ProtJflodlnga. , '. fCot.liTiimi from 8s W. fir.
