A correspondent of Law Note, writ ing from Virginia, givea the following story: In a prosecution for borte steal ing tried in Bedford county Virginia, ut after the war, the evidence was con flicting, and, a usual, the attorney for the prisoner obtained from the court an Instruction that the prisoner was entitled to the benefit of every reasonable doubt. The jury retired, and after they had been out about two hour the dinner hour ar rived. The judge aent the aheriff to ask if the jury would likely agree. The answer came, Ye." The court waited ntil 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and a- gain aent word to know if the jury were likely to agree. Again the affirmative anawer came back. Supper time came aud no jury. Once mor th sheriff made bla pilgrimage to the jury room nd returned with the earn answer. Llghta were procured, and about 9 o'clock they filed in with their verdict, which the court read solemnly; "We the jury, find the defendant not guilty by ad n tight squeexe." Upon the Brat ballot the jury had agreed to "not guilty," but one juror hung the jury nearly twelve hour on the "d n tight queexe," addendum. Purely Business. G. L.
