Keema- to be general ft-eling of
satisfaction that the contest is
ndcdand that our legislators can
now devote their energies to other
matters which for thy past two
years have demanded attention.
Mr. Simon ia a young man of
more-than ordinary force in the
political arena, and he will enter
upon bis duties as a representative
of the grand com'ui on wealth of
Oregon, in the highfet legsilative
body of the land, at a time that is j
fraught with wouderful possibilitieo
forth Pacific Northwest. At no
time since Oregon has been a state
has there been more work of an
important character awaiting the
bands of our .representatives in
congress than there is at the pres
ent lime. Mr. Simon has a splen
did opportunity for distinguishing
himself in his new position, by the
advocacy and successful carrying
out of numerous measurtsin which
the people of the state are interest

whetheror not he will take ad
vantage of his opportunities. One
way in which he can make hiui

about the proposition, and that is
that, sooner or later the Columbia

influence and untiring efforts in
the direction of an open waterway
