Ellis no doubt feels some what moody over the recent con gressional nomination, and Mr Moody will hardly do anything llis, between now and June, but rustle for election. Judge Bradshaw has a way of expediting court business that is highly satisfactory to the average taxpayer, if we are to judge by the expressions of approval of his nieth eds, to be heard on all sides, with out regard to party affiliations The gentleman is deservedly pop. nlar s a jurist, in Gilliam county, for the reason that during the tiiue he has been on the bench in this district he has time and again demonstrated the fact that a court can be ran on business principles as well as anything else. The in dicatsons now are that the judge will be re-elected by a large majority. Edward Bellamy, the author of "Looking Backward," "Equality" and other popular works on social and economic questions, is reported to be dying of consumption at Den vet. Mr. Bellamy's books have been widely read and admired, and while his ideas cave been pronounc and! dtam&rical. and utterly irnprae tical in this age of keen competition and selfish, sordid, money getting, it is still a fact that his work has, perhaps more than any other agen cy, had the effect of opening up discussion among thinking nieu in regard to the imperfections of exist ing conditions as they are related to the present and future happiness of the human family. Thousands of our foremost literary men, edu cators, professional men and states men have received an , inspiration from Bellamy's books and are today laboring for the advancement of the race along lines that a few years ago were unthoughtof. His active work is finished but its effect has hardly begun to be felt. In the dimly distant future when the equality of mankind is less a mean ingless phrase than it is today, the name of Edward Bellamy will be remembered and revered as that of the pioneer apostle of equality and co-operation of the closing days of the nineteenth century.
